: By the Power of 7...I didn't realize someone would take what I said as an
: insult. I like Macs, I still have my old iMac next to my PC (which is how
: I can still run PiD), and I'm in no way trying to talk down at Mac users.
It is offensive because PiD was a Mac game first, and was a Mac game exclusively - and it's just plain silly to say "Yeah, well just run Windows". It's also a game with which many Mac gamers have a deep emotional attachment to since it's the "prequel" to the Marathon Trilogy. That would be like Bungie coming out with a *true* Marathon 4 game and making it Windows-only or Xbox 360 only. It's a slap in the face to the fans because its those fans who would truly appreciate what you're trying to do, having actually played PiD...how many PC/Console gamers have heard of PiD, let alone played it? I admire you motives for wanting to spread the PiD gospel to the unwashed masses on Windows, but I don't see the old timers flocking to this any time soon, since, well, the majority of us Macs, and aren't willing to buy Windows PCs just for this.
Is it too much effort on your part to make your engine F/OSS and have it easily portable? (As opposed to making everything Windows-dependent?) Why can't you use something like Crystal Space or DarkPlaces so that Windows, Mac, *and* Linux players can all join in on the fun?
I'm sorry to be blunt, but while I wish you all the best, I looking forward more to the AO-PiD port than this; at least I can tell my Linux-using buddies to look forward to it.
