Damn you beat me to it.
Movies normally get released on thursdays because for some reason the thursday and friday can get counted as part of the weekend. This means that the amount of money from ticket sales for the first weekend is doubled, because there are now 4 days in it instead of 2. All the execs get to walk away happy.
However some new blockbusters get released on Wednesdays (I think War of the Worlds did this). I think this has something to do with ticket sales for the first week of the movie. Because there is no possible way wednesday is on the weekend.
So with 7/7/07 being on a saturday, there is pretty much a snowballs chance in hell of it being released then. This would mean that the ticket takings for the first weekend would be from saturday night and sunday day only. It doesn't matter how much money this would make in the long run, the first week/weekend is all important.
Of course I'm prepared to eat my hat when I am no doubt proven wrong.
