In Response To: Re: DiaBD Volunteers - Space Walk (Adam Ashwell)

: Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but this seems a bit out of the blue.
: In my experience with Volunteers series there has been serious
: deliberation between forum-goers about what the next series will be.

Actually, we hashed this out many moons ago - back when I was overseas as I recall. Perhaps I'll search for the post when I'm feeling less lazy. In any case, I think we basically agreed we would either do Trojan next, or DiaBD followed by EMR. We'll get to Trojan eventually, but ERM for AO is nearing final beta and I thought this might be a nice time to do it.

: Not that I have any objections - a great choice, and I'm surprised no one
: decided to do this one earlier.

I floated the idea a couple days ago (OK, it was buried in another thread) and when no one responded, I decided to take the bull by the horns and get started.

Ironically, I haven't played DiaBD in a long time - I just started going back through it a few days ago and I'm already on level 15. As I remembered, it can be exasperating to play. Ammo is in short supply throughout, shield chargers and pattern buffers are often ill-placed, and where to go next often defies logic. Still, this was a truly cutting-edge scenario for its time and even though it did not include custom sprites or textures, it was done professionally and the terminal graphics are first rate. The story's a bit lame, but it's a blast to play. And just as it was useful to volunteer SoNK before playing Evil, discussing DiaBD will lay the groundwork for what should be an amazing volunteer effort when we do EMR.

I've taken the lead on this but, as always, I can make no promises. I have a lot going on in my life with a major move planned at the end of the summer and a lot to do before then. Still, I thought this might be a nice diversion from all the stress in my life. I'll try to post daily, but feel free to post yourselves if I miss a day.
