Well this was simple a connection rather than actual fact. At the University of Chicago, where Jason and Alex studied there was a Prof. Bernard Strauss in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology. Nothing more.

The parallels between the 'Flowers of Algernon' and Rampancy are more intriguing.

"What would happen if it were possible to increase human intelligence artificially?"

"What would happen if you made an AI rampant?"
