: While looking around in my english textbook, I found an excerpt from the book
: "Flowers for Algernon."
Interesting Parallels.
BTW, Flowers for Algernon has an interesting history - I vividly remember the 1968 movie titled, simply, Charlie (yes, I'm that old), but it first came out as a short story in 1959. Made into a teleplay in 1961, Daniel Keyes expanded the story to a full-length novel in 1966, for which he won a Nebula award. Cliff Robertson played Charile in both the teleplay and in the movie, winning an academy award for best actor in the latter. Having a brother who's autistic and having been exposed to people with developmental disabilities all my life, Roberson's performance as both a retarded young man and a super-braniac scientist was truly mesmerizing. For what's it's worth, CBS did a remake of the movie in 2000 (which I found, thanks to the wonders of Google). Classic Sci-Fi.
