![]() | In Response To: Re: What mac did you originally play Marathon on? (Tyler) I had a real jewel. A Mac IIvx turned into a powerful Quadra 650 for cheap by a friend of mine, who was working at Apple Computer France. I was very proud of that computer. My best friend had LC630, so we played the demo of Marathon 1 over appletalk as soon as we discovered it. The demo had two annoying limits : There was only the map called "Mars needs a woman", and 5 minutes playing max. No matter, we played it til night to dawn, shouting and laughting all the time (this fps/networking concept was completely new for us). We also looked for a way to get the full game, as the first big shimpent of Marathon game boxes was returned because the French "epilepsy warning" was missing. We finally ordered it directly to the USA. Then we played it almost every week-end for about 4 years. Somebody said "Marathon is an experience and a piece of art that shaped me into the person that I am today". Well I feel exactly the same. I think Bungie was very smart to release the source code of Marathon for free. I can almost phorgive them to be part of Microsoft now ;-) |
