My very first Bungie experience was with the PiD demo that came on my Quadra 950 at work. This was my 3rd Mac, after brief stints with an LC and a Quadra 700. The 950 was a slick machine with 24MB of RAM and a 500 MB hard drive. I resisted playing PiD for a while but eventually gave it a try. It was hard as hell and it kept telling me to turn off all extensions - more than annoying since this was my work computer and I wan't about to do that and make it obvious I was doing something besides work. When I finally traded up to a 300 MHz G3, it came with the Marathon demo on the hard drive. After my experience with PiD, I wasn't eager to give it a try, but I eventually did and, boy, what a difference. I must have played the Demo 50 times before I became curious and actually looked up some information on the game. Wow, there was an M2 and Infinity, too! I quickly downloaded the demos and played them until I could complete all three in my sleep. After a while I finally gave in and bought the Action Sack. I could kick myself for not ordering the Trilogy CD - I thought that I would give PiD another try (I still haven't, however). Believe it or not, this was my first video game purchase - I was rapidly approaching middle age (who am I kidding - I'd already turned 40) and felt I was supposed to be beyond such things. I was hooked. That G3 really screamed. It had 2 4GB ultrawide SCSI drives, 256 MB of RAM and something totally new - a separate graphics card with a whopping 8MB of VRAM! This is basically the same machine that Ian used to creat RED, BTW. Well, that machine has moved on and I'm now using a couple of G4 PowerBooks - a new 17" 1.5 GHz model that is currently being repaired and the old 500 MHz model I'm typing on now.
