: If I can find somebody willing to help me compile this thing (or remove all
: SDL dependencies and still leave me with a usable program), I'll download
: AO again and give it a second shot. If not then RX is dead.
Chris, can you possibly put this on the back burner while you work on the more critical aspects of Rubicon X? You yourself have said that Rubicon X will be finished by this summer at the earliest, which leaves a lot of time in the interim to get the game engine up to speed. Isn't the map the number one priority, or am I missing something?
The next suggestion is perhaps a bit of sacrilidge, but would you be willing to release a version of Rubicon X that is compatible with the existing release of AO? I realize that this would preclude using a number of enhancements that have already been developed, and you wouldn't be able to get rid of some of the more annoying bugs, but isn't a mildly buggy (very mildly buggy) release of Rubicon X better than no release? Nothing says that you cannot release a version 1.1 of Rubicon X once Mark's enhancements make it into the main build of AO, or even once you get the information you need to compile AO yourself. Hopefully Mark's, Scott's and Anaphel's lives (and mine for that matter) will settle down and they'll be able to start making contributions again. Look at all the projects that are being ported to AO - EMR, Evil, Ph'Joueur and others - all of them making the best they can of the existing engine. It would be a shame if Rubicon were to be frozen in time. You and Scott have put so much work into Rubicon X already - why not at least make that available to the masses.
: BTW: I still haven't recieved a confirmation / activation of the account I
: tried to get on the sourceforge forums, so there's evidentally no hope to
: be had there.
Have you tried contacting the site admin about this? BTW, I assume you've already exhausted the resources for engine development listed on the Open Source site. Have you tried to contact Mark? He may not have the time to work on AO, but I would think he could walk you through the process of compiling it.
No need to give up yet. And maybe a little patience would help?
