First time player stuck on M1A1

Hey, I just d/led these games for the first time and was having a blast seeing where Bungie began. I've been playing through M1A1 v1.6 with the medium texture pack installed, I just beat the level "Phfor Your Eyes Only" (the first level on an alien ship), and the game shows the inbetween level text, and then crashes. I click, and the mouse icon appears, and nothing happens. I tried windowed mode, turning off opengl, even messing with a couple menu options, as well as resetting the preferences, but nothing helped. Has anyone else encountered this bug? Is there any way to work around/fix it?

Any help would be really appreciated!
