Interstingly, it's a different kind of mallet. In the book it was a rouque mallet, which is evidently an older version of croquet. Said mallet has a both a wooden head and a metal head. The one in the TV move was a denver croquet mallet, which as the movie explains, is a game of croquet whare everything is twice as big.
