: For those of you new to the Story Forum, don't worry, I'm not talking about
: shutting the forum down. There has been a discussion off and on for quite
: some time about whether or not the forum should remain open. The people
: who maintain it are pretty adamant that it remain completely open, so
: anyone can post, but the level of spamming is reaching the rediculous.
: Active threads are getting bumped down and off the main screen just
: because of the proliferations of the "test" posts.
: My question is this - why not require registration to make a post. It's not
: like you have to provide a legitimate e-mail address or anything, but the
: act of registration would preclude an automated assault on the forum by
: the likes of Mr. "test-ignore". I vote in favor of closure -
: Durandal might try to escape it, but it's really inevitable.
I too foresee the imminent closure, and know that we have begun to realize how it may be cheated (though the price may number in the tens of thousands of spammers). May the best 'thoner win.
