In Response To: Re: The Forever War - and the Player (Blayne) does anyone know how much
Doing some research of our own 300 years ago, it looks like the language the Marine might speak would be considered vulgar yet recognizable. The subtle changes of pronunciation and grammar would likely be the largest factor, as well as a few new words or meanings tossed in.(Try going back the colonial america and say something 'rocks', or is 'cool'). So I'm sure they could communicate, but it would almost assuredly take some time to adapt to the new speaking styles. Then again, it may be only slightly more different than a European speaking to an American.
