On the Submission of Allusions and References

Despite the fancy title, I have only a simple questiom. Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I noticed two allusions to Tolkien at two points of the Marathon saga. I was going to get around to submitting them to Hamish, but I remembered one of the reasons I hesitated for so long.
Anyway, do you guys here prefer finding these yourself (very fun)? or being told to find them and then doing so (also fun, expecially if it's an arcane reference like an out-of-print book)?
