: I was telling a friend about how I was going to finally see about getting
: Aleph One running and how it involved using the files from the original
: Mac versions and whatnot. She said "If you have the original Mac
: versions, why not just run them on a Mac emulator?"
: So not being the most computer saavy person on my block, I just wanna ask:
: can this be done? Relatively easily?
It takes a while to set up. You have to get a ROM image, download disk images with StuffIt and System 7 on them, and go through a lot of settings. You probably need to read the PDF manual in order to set up CD-ROM access, networking, or Internet access.
Here's where I got started:

As for the question of "why not", I can think of a few reasons. Instead of just running the game directly, you'd have to use it as application within an application. You usually get poorer graphics, framerates, and/or stability, especially if you try to play M1 with music. Aleph One is needed to run Eternal, and possibly other future scenarios, and to play online.
There are plenty of reasons to use an emulator too, though. You get the original versions of the games as Bungie intended. Sometimes you need to install a scenario on the Mac before you can covert it to AO SDL format. (Sometimes you need an actual PowerPC Mac, as with TC19.)
It's also currently the only way for Windows users to play Minotaur, PID, and some M1-only scenarios including Operation Tantalus, Repurposing Bob, Phoenix Falling, and Trojan.
