and the fact that bungie and double-aught just made up everything on their way along: a nice mish-mash of 60's sci-fi (published novels and films), vague, fleeting and ultimately pointless references to ancient history and various ancient mythos which really don't affect anything in the actual storyline, and later some cute but pathetically aimed spritzing of lovecraft.

the story page does a nice enough job of showing this, and it's funny how some people see this as further deeping the "mystery" of marathon and how others see it as just a bunch of hack "writers" bodging things together with some virtual duct tape.

anyone intrigued by the marathon "story" would do themselves a massive and amazing and self-enriching favor by reading (fully) the sources of these little vague, teasing chunks that bungie clumsily plastered together.

the only drawback is that you probably won't have nearly the same regard for the marathon series or bungie, but that should be a-o-fucking-k to anyone with any self-regard.
