In Response To: Re: I think you missed the point (ukimalefu) : WHAT-HE-SAID!!! Agreed. All this video game violence crap spread around by certain groups is little more than an excuse... since "the Devil made me do it" isn't acceptable anymore, folks are looking for a different "Devil" to slip in to the excuse. Video games and movies are convenient targets, and little else. A complete abdication from personal responsibility, oddly enough, is a marker for criminal behaviour in its own right. Crooks often complain that "I had no choice" or "I had to do it" or "It's not my fault, he made me do it." Sound familiar? So what are these parents teaching their kids by putting the blame on outside sources? Perhaps if parents actually parented and took a role in their children's lives so that their sole models for behaviour aren't ultra-violent video games, films, and music videos, we wouldn't have spoiled sociopaths littering the world. You wanted the kid. The state didn't tell you to have him/her. So please stop looking to the state to raise him/her for you. -- Steve points out the ESRB rating on a game should be a broad hint, and the text on the box a definite gauge, that parents should use more often. |
