I personally disagree with you here. A specific design doesn't mean everything looks the same, it means everything has a special look to it, you take your creativity and create whatever you want, but you must make sure it got this look to it. That's what I mean with specific design.
Anyway, this is my way of mapmaking, I don't want to force it on somebody else.
