In this map particular, its because I created textures in photoshop while I created the map. It was a great way to work, whenever I thought the set missed something I stopped texturing and created the textures I needed. In pollution I will use some sets more than others. To keep variety in looks (which I think is VERY important) I add more textures for each level. + I try to focus on a very specific design througout a level, it helps to keep consistency and often creates a good atmosphere too. Sometimes I limit myself, I won't use my favourite texture, ok no stairs only elevators, just about anything. But it's good, it makes you think different and come up with new stuff. (and it also adds to consistency) : I played this map back when you distributed it on the Forerunners Hotline.
