Good point - I guess we can reconcile it that way. And perhaps the rocks on Lh'owon are pure silica, or something similar. Silicon dioxide is a clear liquid - when hot it glows brightly due to radiance, but when cooled it's perfectly clear - as quartz in crystaline form, or as glass if prevented from crystalizing. So I think we may have found a workable solution to both problems.
