It does work. For me anyway. Now, I'm not to sure what process I went through to get it to work, but I distinctly remember using obed to create a simple multi story map, with around 70 polygons, monsters, weapons, everything. It used standard infinity shapes, sound, ect. and it worked in Aleph One/SDL. So technically, you should be able to create your own maps on the pc. I wish I could elaborate further, but I've got to get to work _right now_ AS soon as I get back, I'll figure it all out and post my results here. Now everyone get back on topic and help out Blayne ;-)
