256x256 is a good size. at least for me. But you must also consider that many people here are on old computers. And 256x256 is like perfect for my G4 iMac. Sometimes thou aleph one gets slow with it. So imagine what a 256x256 will do to an old G3 iMac for example. So maybe you should consider shipping it with lo-res and then leave the hi-res versions as optional. or mb leave all the versions optional. therefor no unneeded megabytes are downloaded. people select there size.

still a 256x256 version sounds fine for me, a G4 iMac owner. :-)
