Maybe, maybe they were just lazy. My only point is that for whatever reason, they wrote that Tau Ceti was 92ly away. What if they had built some major part of the plot around the fact that it was 92ly away? Would you say they were wrong then, or it was Leela's datemongering or something, or just allow that things are different, cause it's fiction? I say you shouldn't pick and choose what parts of a fictional universe you're going to believe in.

That's why I said "average". Peak could have been much higher. Heck, if Bungie had again been lazy and just assumed that a Ramjet accelerates up to nearly the speed of light at peak (no idea what real peak speeds are, myself), and an accelerating rate rate of acceleration (which is how Ramjets work, faster you move the more thrust you can get), then the average could easily be about 1/3 the speed of light.
