In Response To: Re: er, yeah... (Old Blue Eyes) Those of us who saw the original Manchurian Candidate will recognize that little has been preserved of the original other than the name. Even the youngest of you know that "Old Blue Eyes", aka Frank Sinatra", was one of the greatest pop singers that ever lived. He was the ultimate teen idol during my parents' day, but had a major resurgence during my teenage years. What a lot of you probably don't know is that in between his major singing years, Sanatra had a significant acting career. Mostly B movies with a few notable exceptions, The Manchurian Candidate being one of them. The original film was perfect for the McCarthy era - the communists were fronting an anti-communist candidate for election to the White House. It seems pretty ridiculous today, but not so far fetched back at the beginning of the Cold War. Sanatra was at his best in that film. Thanks for bringing this up, Old Blue Eyes. |
