In Response To: Wow - we're thinking on the same wavelength (Steve Levinson) : I totally agree - a clear disc, say 2 cm in diameter (3/4"), etched on
Ahh...a convert is born. :>) It's a common misconception that everything made from plastic is the same junk that is spewed forth by the tons from China. Just a couple of things I'll mention & I'll avoid darkening your threads again... The colors you see are cast directly into and throughout the pieces themselves, so there really isn't a coating that can wear off...unless you manage to rub a hole completely through the item. The metallized polymers actually demonstrate many of the same properties as an item comprised completely of that metal. Copper and silver metallic pieces will actually tarnish over time unless polished, just like the metals themselves. The really cool thing about the metallized polymers is that you can achieve material properties which are in many way superior to a purely metal item. For instance, you can make a piece that looks exactly like copper, but has a tensile strength which is stronger than steel. Thus endeth the plastics lecture. Later -
