I've thought about this some, and I think substituting the Organics for Flood wouldn't help that point much. People would STILL see it like Halo, but now it would be a Halo rip-off instead of a Halo tie-in.
If it turns out that Halo 2 and 3 flesh out the activation of the Halos and it's not what Eternal says, I have an easily solution built-in: Eternal's version occurred because of time travellers. Without them, it would have happened in an entirely different way. Parallel timelines save the day again...
