That's actually quite an interesting idea... and it would give me some kind of enemy to put in Chapter 5, since it's currently barren because I don't want to try to create crappy Flood and stick them in Marathon. However, there may be some problems, depending on how exactly these Organics work (I never played more than a level of two of RED. It came out right about the time I left Marathon). The reason why the Forerunners/Jjaro used the Halos is because the Flood were organic PARASITES. They couldn't defeat the Flood in combat because for every one of them fallen the Flood gained another. Soon most of their fleet was taken over. If it had just been some horribly powerful evil threat, they could have just sent in wave after wave and probably lost a lot of people but still eventually beaten them back. (Hell now that I think about it why wouldn't they have just used something like the trih xeem either way?) It would also completely separate Eternal from Halo proper, as on not even separate timelines really but separate whole realities. I like the concept of Eternal stretching back from Marathon to a point where the Halo and Marathon universes were the same. (Though I was careful not to make any present-time connection between the two; some people were suggesting to me OMG HATHOR SHOULD BE CORTANA and HEY YEAH MB U R TEH MASTR CHEF!, and I just said ....No). But it's still an interesting notion to play with, mostly because it gives me something to kill in chapter 5. I'll think about it and try to see if I can reconcile these things... |
