Captain Kirk had to fight a Gorn. They are these lizard people with bulbous red faceted eyes. The best way to beat a Gorn is to mix up some gunpowder ingredients by stirring them with a stick, pack it loosely into a piece of bamboo, jam in some diamonds and light it with flint and a piece of steel you don't have. After the smoke clears, you pick the diamonds and bamboo shards out of your face and then smash the confused and startled Gorn's head in with a big rock. Piece of cake.
