Well, here (http://marathon.bungie.org/story/terms/m2/M2.03.1.1.1.gif) is a picture of S'pht without the cloak and everything. I think somewhere else it mentions that it'd be darn near impossible for a S'pht to live without his metal hover device, because of it's weak skin, or something. I'm almost positive that you're right about Yrro creating them.
