: 120mb??? wow, doesn't that guy know how to compress pics??? (tim vogel)
: Well i am not spending over 6 hours downloading that on my 56k, cause i
: downloaded a 12 (or mb 15) mb file that included lots of hi-res textures,
: and they look a lot better than those hi-res textures... (you can get them
: on source.bungie.org)
These are uncompressed png files, which is why they are so large. AO can handle either png or JPEG files, but there may be a slight speed boost with the png's with older graphics cards. In terms of quality, there's no comparison between these and the older high-res textures at source.bungie.org. These are much cleaner and much sharper. I do have to agree that a lot of them, particularly the MI set, appear to have been derived from existing MI textures using simple Photoshop filters. Much better results can be obtained by starting from scratch, but this takes time. I'm particularly disappointed in the pattern buffer and comm terminal textures - you ought to be able to read or get a sense that you could almost read the text, but you can't. The difference will be startlingly clear once Rubicon X is released to the world - if Scott ever finishes all the texture sets.
