: Speaking of vidding levels, I would like to take the opportunity to encourage
: you to try vidding a scenario Steve. I get the strong impression that your
: skills have developed to the point that vidding something is definitely
: within your reach. Might I offer a suggestion? Since you are planning a
: strategy guide for Pfh' Joueur, that would be the perfect time to try
: vidding it. It's probably the easiest of the major scenarios. There are a
: couple of levels that will give you a run for your money, but I'd love to
: see you give it a try. If you think just playing Marathon is addictive,
: wait till you start vidding a scenario. It will CONSUME your time. How
: well I know. And of course, our profession makes it that much easier to
: find the time. :)
Our profession? Speak for yourself. I play Marathon to keep myself sane, but my calendar is already way too full. Simply put, my wife wouldn't tolerate my spending more time on Marathon, and she would be right. For those of you who cannot relate to the concept of marriage, trust me, it is worth it if you find the right partner, but it will put a crimp in your gaming. Anyway, yes, John, I'm sure I could vid anyting if I put my mind to it. I already do make it a point to use minimal ammo - so much so that I ended Evil with a ton of ammo left over - that never used to happen. I probably would be consumed by it. There are just too many other things that put demands on my time, and I'm not sure I want to make the 74th attempt to get past that rough stretch in whatever scenario. One big issue is the lack of standardization of films across AO builds. I would really hate to have to revert to the original Marathon engines but, at the moment, that it the only way to produce a vid film that anyone else can play. If I were to vid, I would want to be able to record a film as evidence of my accomplishments, but with AO I couldn't even be sure that I could play it with a later AO build. Take note, open source community - you need to solve this problem. I would think this would be similar to the problem of synchronizing gameplay over the Internet, so it's worth taking a swipe at.
