i tried those two words too ;)
the handwriting makes the character hard to interpret - if i just knew what it looked like in print finding it by means of radical/strokes would be no problem. the good news is that there are only a relatively small number of radicals that even resemble the blurry thing present in the character.
it _is_ a chinese character, since chinese == japanese kanji
