: Steve, when you say "how it's really done", you aren't refering to
: the "door technique" in Sodding the Logs are you? I have never
: used that technique when vidding a level. I did not use it in my film of
: Sodding the Logs. Even so, the opening Troopers in that level are quite
: easy to deal with since the physics of Rubicon allows the player to
: stand-punch a Trooper without taking damage. Not to turn this into a
: discussion of that level, but dealing with the Troopers at the end was the
: tough part of Sodding....surviving the final ambush is the whole key to
: vidding that level. To my knowledge, Sidoh was never able to vid that
: level, due to those very Troopers at the end.

John, Sidoh has vid the entire scenario, and I have his films to prove it. No I was not referring to the door technique - what I'm referring to is the ability trigger the troopers and then hang back and take them out with the magnum from just outside the range of their grenades. Of course, this uses ammo. I didn't realize that the Ruby physics model allows you to punch troopers. I knew you could punch fighters, but punching troopers seems, well, not the way it should be. What good is a trooper without the danger of its bullets at close range. As I remember, the biggest problem with vidding Sodding the Logs is that there is no hang-time ammo on the level, so you can't get to that 3X recharger and the secret room with the invincibility power-up that makes taking out the troopers at the end a snap. Regardless, though, Sodding is one of the most challenging levels on TC ever.

: As for the "door technique" being a wussy way to play....of course
: it is! But heck, when I am playing at home, as a saved game, as far as I
: am concerned, ANYTHING goes! You have to remember, my goal when playing
: ANY level of any scenario is to use no ammo at all. That's not possible in
: certain situations without using the door technique.

True, but given the choice between wimpy manouvers and using more ammo, I generally choose to waste a little more ammo, but that's my own preference. On the other hand, I do often play AO with the cheat codes enabled (as I've been doing with Evil) - not that I'm trying to cheat, but it saves a lot of time and I hate the tedium of treaking to a shield recharger or pattern buffer when they're a long way back. My rules for doing this are that I've already cleard the way and know that I could go back without taking damage. I guess we all have our shortcuts - even the best of us.
