Volunteers: Pfhor Your Eyes Only

Welcome to the revolution... the first thing you will notice on this level is that your motion tracker is broken. Get ready to be startled a lot. The second thing you will notice is the Marathon floating in the distance instead of the Pfhor ship. A great way of driving home the point that you can have come a very long way.

This level introduces the first totally new monster since the Lookers on Shake Before Using: the Enforcers. Aren't they supposed to never fire on humans? :P Unlike Marathon 2, killing Enforcers with explosives in Marathon 1 still yields alien weapons (but it does get lost if you burn them). On a related note, a bug in Marathon's physics makes grenades travel in a perfectly straight line, insted of dropping slowly to the floor as they do in M2.

The Alien Weapon is very powerful, due to its rapid fire, accuracy, and the ability to maintain a steady barrage for much longer than any other weapon without needing to pause for reloading. Your HUD doess't like it, but at least it still works. I guess the Marine doesn't run a Microsoft OS :P

Another heart attack occurs when you find the empty Hunter armor at the back of the green slime room (second door along the main hallway). Did we ever decide if the Hunters were robots or Pfhor wearing suits?

This level features not one, not two, but three types of random monsters: The fighters, the hunters, and the enforcers all regenerate. Sometimes they come at you from outside, blinking on the motion tracker, sometimes you can find them staring at the wall like idiots and get the drop on them.

And of course there's the secret room full of Alien Weapons and dormant Hunters. The best way to get there is to jump in the small pit of slime 15 seconds after hitting the switch. The teleporter puts you back at the front window, convenient if this secret is your last stop.
