In Response To: Advice? (JimoftheHills) : So I'm looking for some advice. : A number of years ago, I bought a Trilogy Box set in 7/10 condition for the
Any Mac that can boot into OS 9 will run the Trilogy. I don't recommend running it in OS X with the Classic environment. I have a 1 GHz titanium PowerBook G4 here that is the last/fastest PowerBook that can boot into OS 9. For me, it's ideal for old Mac stuff because it doesn't take up a lot of space. I replaced the hard drive with a CompactFlash IDE adapter, so it's silent and boots fast. If you want the truly original music in old Marathon, though, you'll have to find something much older that can still run System 7, and install QuickTime 2.5. That would be pre-G3, so I'd go with a PowerMac with a 604e like a PowerMac 7600 or 8600. That would be pretty hardcore though; you need a Mac monitor, ADB keyboard and mouse to use those. Another option is a PowerBook 1400c or 3400c if you can find one. Not worth it just to hear the original music, IMO. Especially when it comes with Aleph One.
