I didn't either, but I guess it makes some sense, given the nature of the messages on the main terminals of the Electric Sheep levels – they all seem to come from either Thoth or Durandal-Thoth (based on the logos and the white text) and are all very clearly directed at the player, as though he/it is trying to explain some deep dynamic to you.
