If you don't care about getting the best ending, the route stays pretty much the same, as you still have to enter Watch Your Step for the green crystal and make your way to Warning: Earthquake Zone for the lead box. However, I think you can skip Need A Light? entirely, though I don't exactly love the idea of doing the gauntlet without grenades.

I think the other category would be "100%", i.e. collecting every item with a point value or treasure value. Unfortunately because of the gold key and black crystal this route will require you to make your way through all the levels of The Pit. On the flip side this means you'll have a crap-ton of potions for the gauntlet. Of course this route also requires going to Never Stop Firing for the yellow crystal, and escaping through Beware of Low-Flying Nightmares and Feel The Power so you can pick up all the ingots.
