Hmm. I just checked Pathways 2.0 in SheepSaver and none of the flashlights that can't be turned on have the "dead" tag. Is that screenshot from an earlier version? I can't check 1.1 because it's demanding the copy protection code and I don't know where my manual is (yeah, shameful).

There is a different bug in 2.0 regarding dead flashlights, though- the game would append "(on)" to the flashlight's name if you double-clicked on it even after telling you it could not be used. This is fixed in the port.
