: Great, now build an engine that will propel Deimos at that speed...
Iirc, the ship we have in the works isn't going to achieve that speed by engine power alone...gravity assists from jupiter and the sun will be playing a major role.
In theory, I could see this working for deimos as well, but to reinforce your point...I can't see us building anything capable of changing its orbit. Mabey large (heh VERY large) scale medusa-style nuclear pulse propulsion?
Mabey I can make this my next reason to use a calculator: how much force would be needed to launch deimos into a solar orbit that leads to deimos exiting the solar system at around .039c
