I don't know. I wrote that piece from a normal player's perspective. The Greater Nightmare is directly facing you when you teleport in. It fires immediately and because its projectile is guided side stepping does no good. The engine isn't sophisticated enough to allow you to destroy the projectile as it approaches you.

It is possible that if you play that section 30-40 times that in one iteration you might get the drop on Greater Nightmare. But I've never tried that.
Good to see someone else use Google Groups to uncover those old comp.sys.mac.games PID posts. My own archive from this era is pretty skimpy. So Google Groups may have some hidden gems tucked away in its archives.
I'm only just beginning to realize that there was an early sub-culture for PID Vidmastery.
