: Uh oh, I guess my plan to hide file extensions in Aleph One/SDL file browsers
: by default won't go over well with you!
Doesn't really matter in places where you're not renaming files or specifying files by typed names, so I don't care too much whether Aleph does that. It's just a philosophical point with me that a general-purpose file browser ought to show you... you know... the filesystem, how it really is. Files where they're really placed in the directory structure, all of them, how they're really named. (And yes, on that first point, the old Desktop kludge bothered me too; the new way is a bit of an improvement, though still not perfect). Packages (ala .app packages) are OK though.
: What if I make a really expensive cell phone, will that redeem me? :)
Only if it's not really a phone, or even called a phone, but is actually a nice fancy full-color touch-screen palm-top general-purpose computer that just HAPPENS to include the ability to communicate via cellular networks and a nice, easy-to-use, telephony package. "Phones". Bah...
