Wiki doesn't say it, but I seem to recall that Hephastus was the one who forged Zeus' thunderbolts (what with being the smith of the gods and all), and to that extent anvils and lightning are related.
Also, I'm not on my home computer right now so I can't check, but isn't the icon for Anvil the Marathon editor a lightning bolt striking an anvil?
