You're pretty damn well organised, starting with sketches, trying out modeling. Could help by sketching instead of tweaking the texture endlessly =)
Anyway. The first model I started with was the SMG, you can see how it turned out here:

Looks close to the original but a bit too low-poly (since it was planned to be used as a 3D model in-game):

I'm dissatisfied with that model since its too low-poly and... the handle doesn't look right heh
