Should levels have one and only one pattern buffer? If so, I'd say we should agree on which point in the level to place it, so someone doesn't save at a buffer near the end of one level, only to find one right at the beginning of the next, which would be useless. If only one is allowed, let's decide whether it should be at the beginning, middle, or end of a map.
