: And once again I have to raise the issue of requiring registration. The
: spammers target us because we're an open forum. Sure, it's easy enough to
: register, but just as the auto thief passes on the car with a club on the
: steering wheel to go for the easier target, spammers will likely leave us
: alone if we require them to register before posting. Why is it that the
: admins are so opposed to requiring registration? It's simple and quick and
: makes it harder for the spam bots to attack us.
And yet it's annoying.
One of the reasons I like Usenet better than www forums is that I can post on a whim. No need to register or log on. I rarely post on other www forums for the simple reason that they require logging on. It's not a big dea, but it's enough to make me not post except when I have a problem that needs solving.
Annoying as those stupid spams are, they don't prevent me from posting. But if I have to log on before posting, my participation on this forum would probably become liimited to "how do I do [...]" questions.
