| In Response To: Strauss, Durandal, Godhood, and You (Truebe)
Hmmm, interesting idea.
About Strauss giving the idea to Durandal, however. I think the simpler explanation is that Durandal, being an AI and not a human, has completely different ideas about time and mortality. Knowing that the one thing that could kill him for sure was the collapse of the universe, he would immediately start thinking about how to escape closure. It's more a case of survival instinct than a case of megalomania/hubris/gargantuan ambition.
As for Strauss, he's human, age kills him quickly. He's not really in the position to be worrying about the big crunch. Unless you can find some evidence that transferring a human mind to AI was possible. Or maybe he reasoned that if Durandal escaped closure, he, Strauss, would be the man who created God. I'll need to go and read about Struass again, i've forgotten what happened with him.
