: Last time we had a show of hands, M2 was the favorite by around a 2:1 margin.
: Also, Fileball conducted a poll of all Marathon scenarios, original and
: 3rd party. M2 came out the clear favorite there as well.

: I will agree that there are some things about M1 that are superior and M1
: was, after all, truly ground breaking. In terms of gameplay, variety, eye
: candy and plot, M2 is extraordinary. M1's maps are by necessity smaller
: and, as someone put it here many years ago, what kind of chemical
: dependency freak designed the Marathon? M1 was a great game, but the
: levels were rather contrived compared to M2 and Infinity. M1 was the first
: and it will always hold a special place in my heart, but M2 was much more
: sophisticated. It was more polished. Bungie really came of age with M2.

I agree. While still not very sensical, M2's maps are amazing compared to M1. M1 was, as you said, a great game, but M2 really expanded upon M1. I love the maps of Infinity, but the story is rather hard to follow. It wasn't until I read the Infinity Volunteers series that I really understood what was going on. I'd say that M2 is my favorite, but Minf is very close behind.
