In Response To: Evil Marathon Sounds (Nick Hoad)

: I am being killed by my sounds for Mara PiD. Its driving me insane and I want
: to know if anyone else has experienced horrid problems with the Marathon
: sounds file. I'm trying to create a new sounds file for MPiD but things
: won't stop going wrong. I've used Anvil 1.0.3 and 1.0.3b4 and the sounds
: go wrong with both.

: I've had sounds completely disappear, become garbled, turn into strange
: menacing everlasting sounds, and more recently (as in 5 minutes ago)
: sounds merging! Its strange when a Headless dies and you hear a Walther P4
: reload at the same time... even when using a knife. Or when a Ghoul is hit
: and you hear a bone hitting a wall as well.

: Does anyone know what is going on? I thinking I'm going to go and grab a
: fresh Infinity sounds file and work from there.

Anvil is fine for reading the sounds and playing them when performing edits on your shapes and physics files, but please don't try and use Anvil for *editing* sounds. I used Sound Editor for EMR for Infinity, and have used only Wail for editing sounds for EMR for AlephOne. Wail has some useful features, such as mapping 8-bit to 16-bit slots (that way you can store all of your 16-bit sounds in the 8-bit slots, and have them play no matter if the user is using 8-bit or 16-bit). It also lets you create new sound slots, and even use previously unused sound slots. We now have 226 sounds in EMR, and no unused slots. When adding sounds, be sure to use unique class IDs (increments of 10). That can be tedious to ensure, since the class IDs are not sorted. You'll also need to edit Anvil's resource fork to update the menu resource so that you can actually assign the sounds to your shapes and physics files.

Feel free to pop into the MMMG list if you have any more questions related to scenario designing.
