You can use the passMe to do a one time firmware update allowing you to run homebrew code from a gba flash card without any extra hardware. It currently seems pretty unlikely that there will be DS specific flash cards (which is good, because it helps keep the warez kidz away.)

The NeoFlash is just a commercialized version of the passMe that includes a gba flash cart.
