Amazingly enough, both games still have somewhat-active fan communities:

Both are widely considered classics, and combine elements of FPS, survival horror, and RPG. Both have great storylines, and more than a few similarities to the Marathon series...

If you get lucky you can still find the original System Shock for the Macintosh (it's the only reason I still have MacOS 9 on my laptop), but the second game was PC only.
