: Interesting idea, but I don't think so. Remember that Marathon and PID are

Look at RED. A W'rkncacnter (from Earth, no less!) dreams up a race of organic monsters who infect their dead enemies and begin to build strange new creatures out of them...
And speaking of building things, even more on topic: the Gravemind is an amalgam of corpses and dead things, drawn together into one superorganism by the Flood. Remember that the Flood possess the memories of their infected dead, too. That's apparently what was happening with Captain Keyes in that giant blob on the first Halo - the beginnings of a Gravemind.
